According to data leaked from the Insomniac Games studio, it appears that Sony is planning to increase the prices of its games again. In this respect reports NicheGamer publication.
After the release of PlayStation 5, Sony increased the price of some of its games from $ 50 (about 4.6 thousand rubles at the exchange rate of December 21, 2023) to $ 70 (about 6.5 thousand rubles). The leak says that there will be several more rounds of price increases ahead: up to $80 and even $100 (9.2 thousand rubles).
Moreover, NicheGamer writes that among the leaked materials there is information that some kind of serial game distribution model has emerged. For example, the next episode of Marvel’s Spider-Man will be released in three parts and sold for $50 each. So players will have to pay a total of 150 dollars (almost 14 thousand rubles) for the game.
NicheGamer writes: “The total volume of leaked data covers 1.76TB of sensitive data, and while it primarily relates only to Insomniac’s own games, they also provide insight into Sony’s potential plans for the future development of its entire PlayStation business.”
Journalists also noted that these plans only give an idea about the hypothetical future of PlayStation. It is possible that over time the company will reconsider its attitude towards making money.
