From January to December 2023, 385 organizations in Russia were subjected to cyber attacks, and the total volume of data published by hackers exceeded 103 terabytes. socialbites.ca was informed about this by the press service of the company GC Solar, which produces cybersecurity systems.
At the same time, 99% of the captured information was stolen as a result of eight sophisticated operations in which cyber hackers managed to penetrate deep into the infrastructure of the affected companies.
Since the beginning of last year, attackers have made more than 220 million phone numbers publicly available, 1.5 times the population of Russia, according to the organization’s Solar AURA external digital threat monitoring center. Additionally, the stolen databases contained 142 million email addresses and 52.4 thousand passwords for various services.
Most often, Russian IT companies were exposed to hacker attacks in 2023. As a result of the attacks, 4.1 billion lines of data fell into the wrong hands. Service sector businesses ranked second (218.6 million lines), while retail ranked third (187.4 million lines). Rounding out the top five were the financial industry (160.9 million rows) and the video game industry (48.1 million rows).
According to Solar Group experts, in 2023, cybercriminals have learned to use Big Data tools to simultaneously find information about their targets in multiple databases and use it to invade the network infrastructure of victim companies.
