The first naval ship in Russia will operate completely unmanned. St. Eco-ferry “General Chernyakhovsky”, serving on the sea line between St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad, entered the Ust-Luga – Kaliningrad line TASS.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov and Deputy Minister of Transport Alexander Poshivay attended the ceremony via video conference.
“Today we are taking the General Chernyakhovsky sea ferry on its first autonomous journey,” Deputy Prime Minister said during the ceremony.
According to him, “this is not a test launch”, but “the beginning of full-fledged commercial operation of the ship, which should deliver socially important cargo to the Kaliningrad region.”
The ecological ferry “General Chernyakhovsky” operates on a strategically important line between the ports of Ust-Luga and Kaliningrad. The ship is unique because it is the first marine eco-ferry with autonomous control in Russia. It is equipped with autonomous control systems from the Russian developer Sitronics Group.
In October, it became known about changes in financing in the field of Russian shipbuilding. We’re talking about reducing money investments in the construction of nuclear icebreakers for almost 10 billion rubles in three years. The reduction in funding is reportedly due to a sharp increase in project costs. According to the publication, serial icebreakers can double in price.
Previously at the Ministry of Transport said about changes in the construction of a new icebreaker.
