Experts from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) developed and tested the four-legged robot HOUND, testing its capabilities in a hundred-meter race. Robopian covered the distance in 19.87 seconds, setting a new Guinness World Record in his class. The study was published on: Web site scientific institution.
The car, weighing 45 kilograms, took off from a fixed position and reached an average speed of 18.12 kilometers per hour.
When designing HOUND, scientists used planetary gearbox due to its high power transmission efficiency. The actuator (drive) modules for the robot’s hip and knee were combined into a single design.
HOUND is not the first robot to break a speed record. In 2012, the American four-legged buggy Cheetah ran 20 meters and accelerated up to 45.5 kilometers per hour, breaking the record for this distance (44.7 km/h) of the fastest human on the planet, Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt.
However, HOUND is still behind Usain Bolt’s results in the 100 meter dash, which he ran in 9.58 seconds.
Previously company Tesla demonstrated a new version of Android Optimus, which has become 10 kilograms lighter and learns precise movements of hands and fingers.
