Apple is currently developing at least two iPhone 16 prototypes with different designs. In this respect reports MacRumors publication, citing its own sources.
According to journalists, iPhone 16 is called Project DeLorean at Apple. The company has several engineering examples that look similar at first glance but are slightly different in detail.
The most obvious and visually noticeable difference is the new vertical camera position. Unlike the previous model, the iPhone 16 will have vertically positioned rear cameras, which will make the phone easily recognizable as the latest model. Apple is considering two different camera bump designs: one with isolated lenses like the iPhone 12, the other with a black stripe like the iPhone X.
According to MacRumors, a variant of the iPhone 12 is much more common among engineering samples. So there is a high probability that it will be used in the latest version of the device.
Cupertino is developing a combined volume key instead of two separate volume keys specifically for the base iPhone 16. At the same time, the younger model will feature a programmable Action Button, which will be available on the iPhone 15 Pro in 2023.
Color-wise, early prototypes were seen in three colours: yellow, pink and midnight.
iPhone 16 is expected to be announced in September 2024.
