South Korean automobile giants Hyndai Motor Group (HMG) and Kia Corporation introduced new tire technology with integrated chains for driving on ice. This situation was officially reported Web site Hyundai Engine.

As can be seen from the presentation, the anti-icing system consists of six modules made of shape memory alloy on each wheel of the vehicle. The modules are in the form of an L-shaped frame. In the inactive state, they are located in radial grooves located at regular intervals inside the rim.

When activated using an electrical pulse, the elements expand under the influence of current and take the shape of the letter J, extending along the grooves in the tire and providing additional traction on the road surface.

The developers of the innovation stated that the technology they propose is more convenient than traditional anti-icing chains that have to be manually installed and removed from the tires, and the modules are controlled by pressing a button.

Joon Mo Park, Hyndai Advanced Chassis Development Team Leader, expressed his hope that the new technology will be applied to Hyndai and Kia vehicles in the future.

Previously manufacturer electric vehicles Tesla announced the function of automatically calling rescuers in case of an accident.
