Microsoft plans to create its own marketplace for iOS and iPadOS, which will sell games and apps for iPhone and iPad, if Apple complies with the requirements of the European Union Digital Markets Act and allows users of listed devices to download software from third-party sources. In this respect reports Bloomberg cited the words of Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft’s gaming division.

“This is an important part of our strategy that we are actively working on today. We are also discussing this project with partners who would like to see more opportunities to monetize software on mobile devices,” Spencer said.

Microsoft’s top executive did not specify exactly when the App Store alternative would be launched. However, according to him, this will not last for “a few years”.

“I think it will happen sooner,” he added.

Bloomberg believes Microsoft’s iOS market could launch early next year. The fact is that Apple must comply with EU requirements by March 6, 2024.
