Frore Systems presented the results of its experiment with the MacBook Air M2, in which the company’s engineers installed a unique AirJet solid-state fanless cooling system. As a result, this improved the temperature regime and stabilized the operation of the chip, the portal reported. iXBT.
It is stated that the MacBook Air is not equipped with an active cooling system, so these laptops may be subject to overheating and poor performance under high loads. The AirJet system consists of special elements that create a directed air flow that removes heat from the radiator. The replaced Apple laptop used three AirJet Mini elements, each capable of dissipating up to 4.5 W of thermal power. At the same time, the AirJet system makes almost no noise because it has no fans.
Frore Systems conducted comparative tests between a modified MacBook Air and a regular MacBook Air in various scenarios. Under light or short-term loads, the performance difference was minimal or non-existent, as the Apple M2 chip did not have time to overheat and drop frequencies. However, under long-term and intense workloads such as gaming or imaging, the modified computer showed significant superiority over the conventional one.
For example, in the Shadow of the Tomb Raider game, a regular laptop MacBook dropped the frame rate from 28 to 22 in half an hour, while a modified laptop only dropped it from 29 to 27 fps. In the Cinebench R23 test, after a few cycles, the modified laptop scored 8775 points, while the regular laptop scored 8380 points.
In addition, the body temperature of the modified MacBook Air was lower, which was an important factor in terms of comfort of use.
