Terry Gou, founder of Foxconn, one of the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturing companies, has withdrawn from the election race in Taiwan. In this respect reports Bloomberg publication.
Gou said he decided to give up his political goals for the sake of Taiwan. He also expressed hope that another opposition candidate would win the election.
“Those who achieve great things can ignore both praise and criticism. Terry Gow may have been forgotten by people, but I choose to sacrifice my candidacy for the sake of the future and the greater good. Let my decision be an expression of utmost devotion to the homeland,” Gou said in an official statement.
Gou entered politics in 2019. The businessman built his election campaign on promises to resolve the conflict between Taiwan and China. The Foxconn co-founder planned to become an intermediary between Washington and Beijing.
Bloomberg writes that Gou withdrew his candidacy a few hours before the end of registration for participants in the final round.
Foxconn is one of the world leaders in consumer electronics contract manufacturing. One of the company’s main customers is Apple.
