Apple will no longer use the Touch ID fingerprint scanner on new iPhones. In this respect reports MacRumors cites data from someone in the Chinese integrated circuit industry on Weibo.
According to an insider, much of the equipment used to produce “Touch ID” chips for the iPhone has now been permanently disabled. Therefore, we have no reason to believe that Apple will use the fingerprint scanner on smartphones in the near future.
The latest Apple smartphone to use Touch ID is the third-generation iPhone SE. Rumor has it that the fourth-generation model will use Face ID, a more advanced technology for biometric verification of users.
MacRumors writes that Apple is working on an in-display fingerprint scanner. However, this technology will be available around 2026. It will most likely be different from Touch ID and get a new name.
