Apple plans to convert nearly all of its devices to OLED displays within the next six years. This was reported by ET News.
According to the source, by 2027, OLED versions of the iPad mini, Air and Pro, as well as the MacBook Pro and Air, will appear in the Apple lineup. Currently, OLED displays are only installed in the iPhone number line and Apple Watch smartwatches.
The first devices to receive OLED displays will be two versions of the iPad Pro, 11 and 12.9 inches. They are expected to be released in 2024. The tablets will receive LTPO panels that will provide ProMotion technology with an adaptive image refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.
Apple will introduce OLED versions of the iPad mini and iPad Air in 2026, which will receive LTPS matrices. These panels will not support ProMotion technology. The screen diagonal of the iPad Air will remain unchanged – 10.9 inches, while in the iPad mini it will increase from 8.3 to 8.7 inches.
It is claimed that Apple will update the iPad Pro series again in 2027, where the 12.9-inch model will receive an OLED display that supports BOE’s COE (Color Filter in Encapsulation) technology. It will reduce the power consumption of the screen by another 20%. Additionally, this technology will allow Apple to implement an under-screen camera on its tablet.
However, the source does not report that the base iPad models are transferred to OLED matrices. Apple likely plans to continue using cheaper IPS panels in these tablets.
According to ET News, Apple will launch a 16-inch MacBook Pro laptop with an OLED display in 2025, and in 2027, this technology will be introduced to a laptop with a 14-inch display. In 2026, OLED versions of the MacBook Air will appear in 13 and 15 inch sizes. OLED matrices will make laptops lighter, thinner and more energy efficient, and screens brighter and more contrasty.
