Xiaomi smartphones running the new HyperOS shell will have a limited ability to unlock the bootloader, also known as the bootloader. The portal reports this Android Authority.

Xiaomi representatives claim that bootloader unlocking is disabled by default for security reasons. To unlock it, you need to submit an application to the Chinese Xiaomi forum.

However, only users who have reached level five can apply. Additionally, the permit is only valid for one year and is valid for a maximum of three devices. This information only applies to the Chinese version of HyperOS. These restrictions will even affect Russian users who ordered smartphones from China and updated them to global firmware.

It was also learned that devices with an unlocked bootloader will not be able to receive HyperOS updates. To restore the ability to update, you need to turn off the bootloader.

It is still unknown what restrictions there will be for users of the global version of the firmware.

A bootloader is a tool used to modify and customize the Android operating system. Once unlocked, users can obtain root rights, install custom firmware, and modify their devices in any way possible, including removing apps built into the firmware.
