Users who have not signed in to their account or used Google services for two years will be notified in advance via email. Users who regularly use Gmail, Docs, Calendar, or Photos will have their accounts protected. However, if the account has not been active for two years, the data regarding these services will be deleted along with the account.

“Before deleting an account, we will send various notices to both the account’s email address and the secondary email address several months in advance,” Google said.

According to Google representatives, deleting inactive accounts will help protect users from possible cyber attacks. They explain this by saying that dormant accounts are at higher risk of being hacked because they often use outdated or reused passwords that can be compromised.

Additionally, Google noted that inactive accounts rarely have two-factor authentication enabled, which is one of the main ways to protect against unauthorized access.
