A court in London has rejected Apple’s claim to block consumer lawyer Justin Guttmann’s claims about iPhone batteries failing. In this respect reports Reuters agency.
Guttmann represents 24 million iPhone users in the UK. The lawyer hopes to sue Apple for $1.9 billion in damages. A group of plaintiffs allege that Apple deliberately hid the existence of defects in some iPhone models from users and also released software that slowed down the devices.
Apple attempted to contest the claim, but London’s Competition Appeal Tribunal did not side with the IT company. The court allowed the case to continue but asked the prosecutor’s office to provide additional information about the allegations.
Guttmann said the decision was “an important step towards restoring justice to consumers.” Apple did not make a new comment but referred to its previous statement on this issue.
“We have never, and will not, do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product or worsen the user experience for the purpose of promoting sales,” Apple said.
