The Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation, on the recommendation of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), will create a single database of IMEI codes assigned to mobile phones. The newspaper provides information on this recommendation of the FSB. “Kommersan”citing two government sources.
According to them, such registration is needed by special services in order to “increase the effectiveness of operational search activities”, as well as “suppress illegal actions using mobile phones”.
According to sources, the FSB advised this ministry to develop a prototype of a central database of IMEI codes for mobile devices and prepare regulations for its implementation.
Mintsifra confirmed to the publication that they have received advice from the FSB and are in favor of implementing the proposal. As noted in the chapter, further steps are currently being worked on, including conducting research and development.
