User location data stolen from a smartphone can be used by fraudsters to increase the effectiveness of their malicious actions. In this respect reports “Lenta.ru” cites the words of the information security expert at the Security Code company Maria Fesenko.

According to Fesenko, geospatial data allows fraudsters to create more believable myths when deceiving victims. Additionally, movement-related information is frequently used by followers. In the latter case, victims are usually women.

Fesenko recommended following four rules to protect geodata from intruders. First of all, GPS should only be turned on when this function is needed. Secondly, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi should not be kept on all the time because these modules also collect information about the user’s movements. Third, you need to get rid of unused applications that have access to geolocation. Fourth, you should not geotag your posts on social networks and files uploaded to cloud storage.
