The new flagship smartphones of the Xiaomi 14 series feature UltraSpace technology, which adds additional storage memory to the devices. The portal reports this Gizmochina.
Thus, on Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro smartphones in the 256 GB configuration, users will have 264 GB of memory, and in the 512 GB version there will be even more – 528 GB. However, it is not stated how much additional memory will appear in the 1 TB version of Xiaomi 14.
This type of expansion is made possible by using reserved memory for Overprovisioning functions used to increase the speed of the device. For this purpose, 10 GB is reserved in the smartphone chip, and therefore the real memory capacity of such a chip with the declared 256 GB is 266 GB. Most likely, only 2 GB will be reserved for Overprovisioning on Xiaomi 14.
According to Xiaomi, the company’s experts implemented UltraSpace with memory allocation from Over-Provisioning to meet the user’s needs without damaging the device. Moreover, this technology only works on Xiaomi 14 smartphones with proprietary HyperOS firmware. It is not stated whether the UltraSpace function can be used on older smartphones after the update from MIUI to HyperOS.
