Yandex has updated its policy on working with inactive accounts of the Yandex ID service. Profiles that have not shown any activity for more than two and a half years will now be automatically deleted. socialbites.ca was informed about this by the press service of the Russian IT giant.

Accounts will not be deleted immediately. Before that, Yandex will notify users several times about the need to update data and increase security measures. Distribution of such messages began in October 2023.

“After several alerts over at least a month, if no new activity is detected, the service will begin permanently deleting inactive accounts for security purposes,” the company said.

To register your account, simply log in to any Yandex service using an outdated account.

Yandex explained that deleting old accounts is necessary primarily to increase user security. Inactive accounts are often assigned old passwords; they are the most vulnerable and, if hacked, can become a source of access to the user’s personal information or be used to send malicious content.

To register a profile, Yandex asks users to log in to any service via Yandex ID or perform any action using this account: for example, send a letter, save new photos or files in Drive, add comments in Maps.
