Steam, the online service for the sale of digital copies of computer games, will stop working with Turkish lira and Argentine pesos from November 20, 2023. Valve is about this reported on the official Steam blog.

Valve explained its decision by strong fluctuations in the exchange rate of local currencies in certain countries. In both regions, payments made on Steam after this date will be processed in US dollars. The company believes that the move to the dollar will benefit both players and developers.

“Volatile exchange rates in Argentina and Turkey in recent years have made it difficult for developers to choose and maintain prices for their games. This has been stated clearly and directly in our meetings and roundtables with developers,” Valve said.

The company reported that some games on Steam may become more expensive, while others may, on the contrary, become cheaper, within the scope of moving the payment system to dollars in Turkey and Argentina.

Valve’s new policy will also affect Russian players. Shortly after the launch of CBO, Steam stopped working with Russian bank cards. For this reason, many players continued to purchase women’s games by opening additional accounts in the Turkish region of Steam. Turkey was often preferred due to the relatively low cost of the games due to the weakening of the lira.
