Some AMD graphics card users have been banned by Valve’s Anti-Cheat (VAC) anti-cheat system in the shooter Counter-Strike 2 due to a recent graphics adapter update. The portal reports this rosetked.

According to the source, the reason for the blocking may be the new Anti-Lag+ feature included in the latest driver version 23.10.1 for AMD graphics cards. This feature synchronizes the CPU and GPU to reduce latency on Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards.

Valve, the developer of Counter-Strike 2, confirmed the problem. As it turns out, Anti-Lag+ automatically makes changes to the engine.dll file, raising suspicion among VAC anti-cheats who believe the user is trying to hack the game.

Until AMD releases a fix patch, Valve recommends users disable Anti-Lag+ if they want to play Counter-Strike 2 without risking getting banned.

Problems due to Anti-Lag+ are also experienced in other projects, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Apex Legends. In the first case, the game spontaneously crashes due to novelty, in the second case it leads to erroneous bans.
