Approximately 4.7 million mobile device repairs are carried out annually in Russia, and as a result, more than 10% of Russians who contact service centers suffer from personal data leaks. This is stated in a study by the Artezio company (part of the LANIT group), the results of which are available on socialbites.ca.

Experts from the Artezio mobile application development department found that out of 4.7 million Russians who contacted service centers, 7.3% had their personal photos and videos leaked. At the same time, in 3.5% of cases, login data for accounts and cloud storage was leaked, while in 4.8%, repairs led to unauthorized access by technicians to applications installed on the device.

Based on information gathered by analysts, researchers concluded that approximately 2.4% of all leaks lead to reputational and financial losses.

According to a study by Artezio, the majority (58%) of those who encounter unscrupulous technicians will never trust their devices again. Another quarter of those affected started using two-factor authentication after that. According to experts, the remaining 13% did not take any action.

At the same time, for 70% of Russians (this includes even those who have not sent their phones for repair), the risk of losing data on their smartphones is not a motivator for any preventive action, since more than 80% of users, accordingly, do not store any sensitive data on their smartphones. don’t hide it. However, users do not include banking applications and SMS or two-factor authentication used to log into accounts. Moreover, Artezio experts discovered that smartphone owners often forget passport photos and personal documents in the device’s gallery or notebook.

It is noted that the study data is an estimate as the exact number of data breach incidents may be underestimated or not fully recorded. This is due to a lack of strict regulation and control by law enforcement, as well as the possible reluctance of victims to report problems.
