A third of Russians have encountered malicious clones of banking applications for smartphones online at least once from 2022. In this respect reports TASS cites a study by the ITFB Group.
After the sanctions imposed on Russian banks, mobile applications began to disappear from the App Store and Google Play. At the same time, fake copies of them began to be actively distributed through various channels, according to the ITFB Group.
Specifically, 44% of survey respondents stated that they had encountered malicious clone links in social networks, instant messengers and emails. More than a third (35%) of Russians have been called by scammers and asked to install “updates”. 12% of survey participants encountered malware in official markets. The other 9% encountered clones on phishing sites.
Due to the increased threat of encounters with criminals, 42% of respondents began to save only a small amount on their bank cards, and 9% began to withdraw all their money. One in five people (22%) keep all their savings on the card.
The ITFB Group survey was conducted between 18 August and 28 September 2023. Approximately 2.5 thousand people attended.
