Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko received a proposal from a group of State Duma deputies to create a local analogue of the popular video game The Sims, which would correspond to traditional Russian spiritual and moral values. This was reported by TASS referring to a document sent to Chernyshenko.

The initiators of the project were representatives of four factions of the State Duma: Yana Lantratova, first deputy chairman of the State Duma committee on education (“A Just Russia – For Truth”), Nina Ostanina (Communist Party of the Russian Federation), chairman of the committee on family, women and children, labor, social policy and chairman of the relations committee, veterans Yaroslav Nilov (LDPR) and committee member Ekaterina Stenyakina (United Russia). Video games are an important element of the cultural and leisure activities of many Russians, especially children and young people, they said, citing a Kaspersky Lab study showing that 90% of Russian children play video games.

Deputies emphasized that life simulator type games, in which the player controls virtual characters living in a virtual world, are of particular importance. The most famous and relevant game of this genre is The Sims series, the last part of which attracted more than 70 million players around the world.

“At the same time, this game actively promotes LGBT and other forms of behavior that contradict traditional Russian spiritual and moral values. The document states that the game is popular among Russian youth, despite its official “18+” rating.

Deputies believe that the creation of a domestic video game in the life simulator genre in accordance with Russian traditional spiritual and moral values ​​u200bu200band educational elements can help young people acquire knowledge that will be useful in real life. Indoor play can teach young people about building healthy family relationships, bearing and raising children, the basics of Russian legislation, and professional guidance. Such development can also help acquire knowledge of the basics of financial literacy, basic norms of behavior and communication in Russian society, as well as the acquisition of critical thinking and information hygiene skills.
