Alternative WhatsApp clients from third-party developers will allow smartphone users with older versions of Android to access the messaging app. RT about this post reported information security (IS) expert Alexey Kurochkin.

Kurochkin talked about alternative WhatsApp clients from third-party developers and commented on information about the imminent end of messaging support on smartphones with Android versions lower than 5.0. The new restriction will come into force on October 24, 2023.

“I’m telling you that there is a 99% chance that there are alternative ways to use WhatsApp in older versions. There are third-party applications that you can use your WhatsApp account with,” Kurochkin said.

According to him, Meta (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) decided to abandon support for older versions of Android, since it is extremely difficult to maintain the same functionality in applications for different OS generations.

“So naturally something breaks or gets lost. “You can’t support something old forever,” the expert concluded.
