Some iPhone users complained that their privacy settings were automatically reset without warning after installing iOS 17. reports edition 9to5Mac.
The issue was first reported by a group of developers from Germany and Canada who appeared on X (Twitter) under the pseudonym Mysk. They noticed that the settings in the “Privacy and Security” menu changed after updating iOS on some smartphones. In particular, the transfer of information regarding the location and usage of the iPhone to Apple is automatically enabled.
Apple said this shouldn’t happen. The company launched an investigation into known incidents.
“Location data is end-to-end encrypted and cannot be read by Apple employees,” the company said.
9to5Mac noted that location data is often used by iOS to geotag photos and recommend apps in the App Store.
Although these options seem harmless, Mysk experts recommend disabling them to maintain digital hygiene.
