The joint research and analytical center was created on the basis of the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Technologies of the Far Eastern Federal University. The center deals with a wide range of tasks, from analysis of AI regulations in countries of the Asia-Pacific region (APR) and research in the field of sustainable development to development of scientific cooperation with leading institutions of these countries. The center also takes part in the development of solutions to solve basic environmental problems.

One of the most important problems of the Far East is typhoons. “To detect tropical hurricanes, we have created a unique mathematical model based on artificial intelligence, which identifies emerging hurricanes based on satellite images, diagnoses their strength and other characteristics, and allows us to track the trajectory of their movement,” said Sergey Budenov. From Sberbank.

Yesterday Sberbank, the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia and the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) agreement reached on the inclusion of artificial intelligence-based cyclone monitoring in the general system of the Russian Ministry of Emergencies for monitoring natural phenomena. According to the representative of the Ministry of Emergencies who was present at the presentation, the detection system will allow solving the problem of minimizing the risks of devastating typhoons. The center’s next task will be to improve forecast accuracy and predict the area of hurricane formation. A model of the possible course and strength of a natural disaster will make it possible to recommend that authorities take a number of preventive measures that will minimize the consequences, warn the population and, if necessary, take them to safe areas. The forecast will be published at least three days in advance.

The next joint project is an optimization model for the Vladivostok maritime trading port. Fesco Dmitry Surovets VP IT. “Yesterday, a tripartite memorandum of understanding was signed between the FESCO transport group, Sber and FEFU on cooperation in the field of digitalization and automation based on artificial intelligence technologies and machine learning of operational and production processes in ports and other maritime transport infrastructure facilities in the Far East. In his speech at the presentation, Fesco IT vice president Dmitry Surovets stated that the partnership will optimize logistics and increase the level of digital transformation of the port. The service will allow you to place containers in the port area so that they will not be rearranged in the future. This saves operating costs and reduces logistics time. The finished model will be ready in approximately 8 months. The head of Sberbank, German Gref, suggested adding a traffic control system to it.

Other solutions implemented by the center include increasing the environmental friendliness of artificial intelligence, reducing the carbon footprint during AI training, an identification system for Amur tigers, developing models for identifying river blockages and illegal dumps, and developing models for the identification of river blockages and illegal dumping. To predict weather conditions in the area.

Sberbank President German Gref thanked the center’s employees for their work and noted that he called for the inclusion of students in the center’s work. “Two years ago, the president instructed all universities, without exception, to include a course to train specialists in the field of artificial intelligence. “There is not a single expertise that can exist in the future without digital competence, without working with big data and artificial intelligence,” emphasized German Gref.
