Number of DDoS attacks increased in UAE as Russian businesses migrate

Due to the migration of Russian businesses in the first half of 2023, the number of DDoS attacks in the United Arab Emirates increased by 68% compared to the same period last year. The financial sector was the most attacked sector with a share of 26% in the total number of incidents. Telecommunication companies take the second place with a share of 18%. The top three closed the online retail space (14% of the total number of attacks).

Experts attribute the increase in DDoS attacks in the UAE to the general increase in business activity, as well as the mass migration of Russian businesses to this country.

According to StormWall, “Both of these factors have resulted in increased interest from hackers in the country and increased DDoS attacks.”

StormWall did not specify the number and details of the emigrated Russian companies. But before that Izvestia WroteHe noted that from February to October 2022 alone, about 700 businesses from Russia opened branches in the UAE, five to seven times higher than the previous year.
