Skype users warned of a dangerous vulnerability

A vulnerability has been discovered in the mobile version of Skype that allows attackers to learn the user’s IP address. In this respect informs Portal 404 Media quotes a security researcher known as Yossi.

According to Yossi, a hacker can find out the user’s location by sending a message with any link. When this message is opened, the user’s IP address will be transferred to the hacker’s server. Yossi demonstrated this method with a 404 Media journalist that he was able to identify even while using the VPN service.

Yossi claimed that he reported the problem to Microsoft on August 12, but that the company did not take the matter seriously. At that time, Microsoft stated that the disclosure of the IP address was not a security vulnerability.

It wasn’t until 404 Media reached out to Microsoft and requested comment that the company promised to fix the vulnerability in a future product update without giving a specific timeline.
