Apple employees signed up for a fake account they thought were their boss

On the social network Instagram (the owner of Meta is recognized and banned in Russia as an extremist), a fake account of Apple CEO Tim Cook, to which some of the company’s top executives are subscribed, has surfaced. In this respect perceived portal 9to5mac.

Tim Cook is known to maintain only two pages: on the social network X (formerly Twitter) and on the Chinese Weibo. Shortly after Elon Musk bought Twitter, users started wondering if Cook was considering switching from this platform to another. But in July 2023, the Instagram profile @tim.d.cook appeared, which presented himself as the head of Apple and even posted photos and videos on his behalf.

9to5mac sources confirmed to the portal that the account was fake and not owned by Cook. Despite this, many Apple Vice Presidents have signed up for this profile, including Lisa Jackson and Alana Dye. Alongside these, other Apple employees signed up with a fake boss.

At the time the note was published, the fake Tim Cook’s page had been deleted. Most likely, this was facilitated by Apple, which has an official account on Instagram and, among other things, publishes photos and videos of users taken on the iPhone.
