The new version 116 of the popular Google Chrome browser will support quantum-proof encryption algorithms. It has been reported blog program developers.

Chrome Security Team Technician Devon O’Brien noted that the Kyber-768 algorithm was chosen, which was approved by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology.

“Chrome will support X25519Kyber768 from version number 116 onwards. Now in Chrome 115 this option is hidden in the browser’s deep settings,” he said.

Kyber is now recognized and included in programs by IT giants such as Cloudflare, Amazon Web Services and IBM.

“To determine if the ecosystem is incompatible with this change, we’re rolling it out to Chrome and Google’s servers and monitoring for potential compatibility issues,” added O’Brien.

There is a generally accepted view among experts that it will take at least five years for quantum computers to pose a serious threat.

But a tech from Chrome is confident that the technology needs improvement right now.

“Some uses of cryptography are vulnerable to the kind of attack where data is now collected and stored and decrypted in the future with advanced cryptanalysis systems,” O’Brien said.

Former Apple employee accused While hiding information about a security vulnerability in Chrome.
