It is not dangerous to leave a smartphone unattended for charging overnight, the battery should not ignite due to such a procedure. The journalist told PCMag Eric Griffith.
According to him, one of the main myths is that charging a smartphone at night leads to battery overload. Griffith explained that this approach reduces the battery life of the phone, but does not pose a fire hazard.
“Phones are too smart to be overloaded. “Additional security chips inside ensure this doesn’t happen to a tablet, phone or even a laptop.”
He also assured that the smartphone can be left by the bed at night, but you should not put any items in the gadget. Also, do not put your phone under the pillow.
“If you violate these requirements, the smartphone will not get hot enough to ignite on its own, but rather hot enough to damage the battery,” Griffith said.
The journalist mocked the strangest myth about batteries – the need to store a smartphone in the refrigerator to avoid battery problems.
“Lithium-ion batteries hate two things: extreme cold and extreme heat. Repeatedly charging the phone in below freezing temperatures won’t fix the problem. It will just drain the battery faster,” he said.
Griffith concluded that when the battery gets hot, you should put the smartphone in the shade and not use it for a while to avoid direct sunlight.
