Between January and June 2023, 3.3 million smartwatches and fitness trackers were sold in Russia for a total of RUB 20.2 billion; this is 50% more in units and 2% in cash compared to the same period last year. This was reported to socialbites.ca in the press service of MTS.
Smart watches remain the most popular device in the wearable electronics segment. In the last year, their share in unit sales increased from 51% to 68%. In total, from January to June, 2.2 million of these gadgets were sold in the country, for a total of about 17.9 billion rubles; this is 50% more in units and 1% more in currency than last year’s figures. The average price of the device decreased by 49% to 8 thousand rubles.
The main growth in this category was demonstrated by lesser-known brands, primarily in China, that emerged last year and this year. They accounted for 43% of sales. It is followed by Apple with 10% and Xiaomi with 8%.
In second place in popularity are fitness trackers. They make up 25% of unit sales. From January to June, 821 thousand units were sold in the amount of 1.8 billion rubles; this is 4% less than the previous year and 254% less in monetary terms. The average price decreased by 23% to 2.2 thousand rubles. About half (52%) of the market remains with Xiaomi.
Children’s smart watches account for 7% of sales. The demand for this category of goods remains constant. In the first half of the year, 241 thousand children’s watches in the amount of 560 million rubles were sold on the Russian wearable device market, which is 10% more in quantity and 10% less in monetary terms. The average price decreased by 18% to 2.3 thousand rubles.
