“We have decided to terminate our direct investment in the Next Computing Unit (NUC) business and change our strategy to allow our ecosystem partners to continue innovating and growing NUC,” the document states. Representatives of the company sent a corresponding statement to the partners.
Intel assured that this decision would not affect other divisions within Intel, such as the Client Computing Group (CCG) and Networking and Edge Computing (NEX).
“We’re also working with our partners and customers to ensure a smooth transition and ensure that all of our ongoing commitments are met,” a company spokesperson said in a statement.
According to VideoCardz, this division of Intel was also responsible for the design of laptops and motherboards for mini PCs. According to an internal document, the company expects third-party manufacturers to continue developing the NUC ecosystem.
The first computer of the NUC series was released in 2013.
