The Telegram team has updated its privacy policy, opening up additional options for advertisers, including the ability to display ads based on users’ IP addresses. In this respect informs Portal “Durov’s Code” with a link to a resource close to Telegram.
It has been stated that until recently, the display of ads in Telegram was determined solely by the user’s language, which often led to “inappropriate” results. In this context, new tools available to advertisers allow them to more accurately customize targeted ads based on users’ interests (subscriptions), language, country and region.
“Advertisers are offered the opportunity to display ads based on the approximately defined country and city to which the user’s IP address belongs (no other geolocation data is used for these purposes),” writes Code Durova.
Additionally, advertisers will be able to submit an anonymous list of encrypted identifiers based on phone numbers (without the numbers themselves) to show ads to a limited circle of people.
At the same time, users of paid Telegram Premium subscriptions will be able to bypass the collection of this data, since ads are not displayed in the messenger.
