The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS), in response to a request by State Duma deputy Anton Tkachev, said that Russian laws do not provide for state regulation of prices for petroleum products. Earlier, Tkachev filed an appeal with the Federal Antimonopoly Service regarding the increase in retail prices of motor gasoline at gas stations in the Lipetsk region.
“The legislation of the Russian Federation does not provide for state regulation of the prices of petroleum products. Economic organizations engaged in the sale of retail goods independently decide on the prices of goods sold, ”says the answer.
The FAS added that the agency may exercise control over pricing in the market in the form of checking whether prices are reasonable or if market participants make anti-competitive agreements or actions.
