Oculus co-founder Palmer Lucky, inventor of the Oculus Rift virtual reality helmet, praised Apple employees for their work on the Vision Pro mixed reality helmet. He talked about it on a podcast. YouTube.
According to Lucky, he is extremely pleased with the device’s design, despite criticism from the public. For example, the Vision Pro power bank is what the inventor once advocated for Oculus devices.
“It’s the right way to place the food. And I was a big supporter of that at Oculus. Unfortunately, it was a battle I lost. “Oculus has gone to great lengths to fit all the batteries into the headset, including the front.”
The Oculus co-founder added that Apple may be making the same mistake in its search for a more stylish device. But Lucky is confident that the comfort while wearing the headset isn’t worth the extra weight on the head.
Lucky said that Apple correctly priced the Vision Pro at $3,500, a premium device best suited to the current level of virtual reality development.
“When Apple released the Vision Pro, I retweeted my own tweet in 2015 and said here that everyone should want to have VR before they can afford it. I think Apple took that approach as well,” he concluded.
Lucky founded Oculus, one of the first startups to achieve mainstream success in AR/VR headsets. Oculus was acquired by Facebook for $2 billion in 2014 (the owner of Meta is considered an extremist and is banned in Russia) Lucky launched the Oculus Rift in 2016 while working at Facebook.
In March 2017, Lucky retired from Facebook and ended his relationship with Oculus. The businessman later founded Anduril Industries in partnership with a number of former Oculus executives. The startup is developing technologies for defensive autonomous systems.
