In a speech in US court in an antitrust lawsuit involving the merger of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard, Xbox head Phil Spencer accused Sony of trying to destroy a competitor. In this respect informs NeoGAF with reference to The Verge.
The head of Xbox said that Sony is the dominant company in the video game market and is actively using its resources to compete aggressively. Specifically, Spencer noted that Sony even used the money from the sale of Minecraft, a game owned by Microsoft, against the Xbox.
“Sony takes 30% of our revenue from every Minecraft sale on PlayStation and then uses that money to further reduce Xbox’s chances of survival. We are trying to compete with Sony, but as I said before, we have been in the third place in the game market for the last 20 years. We are behind Sony and Nintendo, and our rise is blocked,” Spencer said.
He also noted that Sony has consistently blocked attempts by third-party developers to release their games not only on PlayStation but also on other platforms. At the same time, Sony is always in a rush to expose Microsoft when it tries to make games exclusive, even from its internal studios like Bethesda’s Starfield.
Previously reportedPlayStation president Jim Ryan plans to continue a partnership with Xbox following the agreement between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard.
