From January to May 2023, the network recorded 64 cases of key database releases, which is 33% more than the result of the same period last year. Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence analyst Igor Fitz spoke about this at the Kaspersky CyberSecurity Weekend 2023 conference.

“197 million user data was made public, an increase of 97 million from a year ago. The published data includes 23 million lines of passwords and 81 million lines of phone numbers.

The expert explained that mainly in the first half of 2023, the financial sector, IT sector and retail companies were exposed to leaks. Internet services and restaurant businesses are most at risk in 2022.

“The procedure for publishing the leaked data has also accelerated. Half of the databases in 2023 are available for free within a month of being removed from the hacked companies’ knowledge stores.”

The expert explained that the acceleration of the attackers was due to the desire to cause a public reaction as soon as possible.
