Turning off the Internet on your smartphone does not cancel the spying of your own mobile device and does not guarantee the security of personal data. In an interview with the agency, “hit the primer”, said Shamil Magomedov, Head of the Intelligent Information Security Systems Department at the RTU MIREA Institute of Cyber Security and Digital Technologies.
According to the expert, smartphones constantly contain information about the owner, location, photos taken with the device, etc. even when the internet is off.
“For example, metadata of graphic files: information about the place and time of shooting is stored in the phone’s memory. But as soon as the gadget is back online, it will upload it to cloud storage,” Magomedov said.
The specialist added that confidential information is also stored on the SIM card of the smartphone, for example, the history of the user’s contacts and movements. According to Magomedov, even a newly purchased smartphone “out of the box” already collects a large amount of data for its manufacturer.
