Nintendo will receive about half a million euros in compensation from file hosting for distributing pirated games. In this respect informs DTF Portal.
The Paris Court of Appeal found Dstorage guilty of copyright infringement by Nintendo and ordered him to pay €467,000 in damages. Dstorage is 1fichier’s file hosting operator, where users upload and download pirated copies of Nintendo games. The operator has not removed or blocked access to such content despite Nintendo’s warnings.
In response, Nintendo sued Dstorage, demanding that the violations be stopped and compensation paid. In May 2021, the Paris Court of First Instance ruled in Nintendo’s favor, which is now upheld by the Court of Appeal. Dstorage has the right to appeal the court decision, but it is not yet known whether it will do so.
Dstorage is known for ignoring requests from copyright holders. In 2018, software and games industry association ESA reported that 1fichier removed content in only 0.59% of complaints. In 2020, this figure has dropped to 0.12%.
