Ruby studio Fntastic has sued the owner of the mobile app The Day Before, demanding it transfer the right to use the name of its game. In this respect informs InsiderGaming portal.
In early 2023, it became known that the name of the game The Day Before was already taken by another company – Korean developer Lee Sung-jae registered a trademark for a mobile application in 2010. Studio Fntastic won’t give up on its name and sued Lee Sun Jae, demanding that they transfer the usage rights to The Day Before.
However, as the leaked documents suggest, the hearing could take a long time – the first hearing will only take place on May 22 and the final hearing will not be before October 23, 2024. This means that by the time the trial is over, the game should already be out as it is scheduled for release on November 10, 2023.
How Fntastic plans to resolve this dispute has yet to be reported. If the Korean developer does not agree to transfer the trademark, the studio will have to look for a new name for their projects or delay its release. This is expected to shake the confidence of the gaming community, which does not believe in the existence of The Day Before.
Insider-Gaming journalists recommend that developers consider other games like Two Days Before or The Day After.
