Automaker Hyundai has announced a cyber incident in which hackers managed to steal the personal data of customers in Italy and France from the company. In this respect informs Edition of Bleeping Computer.
Hyundai began sending out a notification to its customers that the attackers received personal data from car owners and those who signed up for a car test drive. The hackers specifically got people’s emails, physical addresses, phone numbers and VIN numbers of cars. Customers’ banking data remained intact.
Hyundai assured that they had de-energized the compromised equipment and drew experts into the investigation. However, they warned customers of possible fraudulent promotions.
“While there is no evidence that the relevant data has been used for fraudulent purposes, we advise you to be very careful with any attempt to communicate on behalf of Hyundai Italia or other companies, whether by email, post or SMS. Companies of the Hyundai Group,” says the company’s message.
