Enthusiast Andreas Eriksen has developed a portable computer that can last up to two years from one charge. In this respect informs Tom’s Hardware Portal.
Eriksen’s inspiration for his PotatoP “laptop” was his dissatisfaction with the fact that his old laptop was constantly running out of power. Thinking that an enthusiast doesn’t need a powerful computer for business tasks, he decided to create his own laptop with a comfortable keyboard, good display and low power consumption.
The motherboard chosen was the SparkFun RedBoard Artemis ATP platform with Ambiq Apollo3 chip using an Arm Cortex-M4F processor clocked up to 96 MHz. Enthusiast equipped the computer with 384 KB of RAM and 1 MB of drive. PotatoP also offers a wide variety of interfaces and ports for connecting external peripherals.
Finally, Eriksen used a 4.4-inch Sharp Memory in Pixel monochrome display with a resolution of 320×240 pixels, and the Happy Hacking Keyboard Lite 2 model was chosen as the keyboard.
In other words, according to Eriksen, with the help of a 12,000 mAh battery and a small solar panel, the PotatoP can work for up to two years on a single charge. Enthusiast plans to expand these figures in the future by extending the computer’s battery life to “infinity”.
