American billionaire Jeff Bezos, founder of IT giant Amazon, held a secret meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace in Paris. It has been reported Le Point.
Macron presented the founder of Amazon with the Légion d’Honneur in a secret private ceremony on February 16.
It was noted that the ceremony, attended by only a small group of guests, was not announced by the press service of the French president and was not included in Macron’s official calendar.
Le Point magazine published a photo of Macron sitting with Bezos in a pale gray suit at the adorned Élysée Palace.
Bezos was awarded the Legion of Honor nearly 10 years ago, before Macron became president. However, the billionaire has not yet come to Paris to receive the award.
Bill and Melinda Gates are also recipients of the Legion of Honor for their philanthropic work.
Le Point pointed out that the ceremony for Bezos took place on the same day as the nationwide strike against Macron’s plan to raise the retirement age in France to 64.
Previously, some Amazon employees called to return Jeff Bezos as CEO of a company after mass layoffs.
