Study: More than 40% of Russians believe their phone is tapped

Brands create ads on the Internet using data they receive via wiretapping, as 41% of Russians are sure. This was reported to socialbites.ca by the press service of the marketing company Mindbox.

Another 24% of Russians believe that brands analyze users’ posted personal data and serve ads accordingly, according to a Mindbox study. 18% of respondents are confident that companies monitor people’s online activities. Another 14% of Russians think that brands analyze the behavior of users of their sites when creating ads. About 6% believe companies are following them in offline stores.

Also, the Mindbox survey showed which personal data Russians value the least and fearlessly share with online companies. For example, 29% of respondents voted for email, 24% for information about age and gender, and 12% for information about occupation and marital status. At the same time, most Russians value information about income (25%), biometric data (23%), geographic location (18%), residential address (16%) and phone number (11%).

It also turned out that 41% of Russians would not want to pass on their data to companies, but see themselves as hostages of a hopeless situation. Another 26% have a negative attitude towards data transfer and try not to share information about themselves with brands. And only 11% of respondents have a positive attitude towards this feature, believing that collecting personal information about users helps companies improve services.

More than 1,200 people from Russian cities with a population of more than one million took part in the Mindbox online survey. The survey of respondents took place in February 2023.
