Steam has released the game Returnal, which has been exclusive to PlayStation 5 for nearly two years.
Metacritic PC version of Returnal based on 20 reviews on the aggregator site accepted 87 points out of 100 are proof of the high quality of the game. But the positive feedback from journalists did not succeed in attracting a wide audience to the project.
According to SteamDB statistics, on February 15, the day Returnal was released on PC, the novelty attracted only a few thousand players – only 5.7 thousand at the peak of online gaming. By comparison, Hogwarts Legacy had 900,000 concurrent players in its peak hours, which is almost 200 times more than Returnal.
At the same time, the online count of legacy Sony exclusivity continues to drop. As of the morning of February 16, returns are less than 3,000 people online.
If we were to judge the early success of Sony games on PC online, Returnal will come in second from the bottom. Only Sackboy: A Big Adventure was released earlier than Returnal, which managed to attract only 610 players at its peak on its first day.
