The writers of the evening TV show Saturday Night Live on NBC, together with Nintendo, shot a trailer for the comic adaptation of the Mario Kart game in the style of the sensational TV series The Last of Us. After the TV show clip seen Saturday Night Live on the YouTube channel.
As in The Last of Us, the Nintendo and NBC short film featured Pedro Pascal as Mario. In addition to the protagonist, the funny video borrowed from the hit and gloomy style of HBO – the action of Mario Kart, transferred to the post-apocalyptic version of Mushroom Kingdom.
In addition to Mario, the short film also featured other heroes from the Super Mario game universe. For example, Mario’s brother and girlfriend are friends with Luigi and Peach, as well as the main villain Bowser and the heroes Toad and Yoshi.
The seriousness of The Last of Us series is very incompatible with the universe of the Nintendo game, as the Mario games are family games and their events always develop in bright fairy-tale settings. Many of the humorous parts of the trailer build on this inconsistency.
Published on the Saturday Night Live YouTube channel, the Mario Kart adaptation garnered close to 250,000 views and more than 16,000 likes within a few hours.
