Google Pixel 8 smartphones will most likely use Samsung’s new camera – ISOCELL GN 2. About it informs DigiTimes version. It is claimed that both the base model of the future Google smartphone and the Pro version will receive the new sensor.
From the previous generation ISOCELL GN 1 sensor used in the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, as well as the 7 and 7 Pro, the ISOCELL GN 2 differs first of all in its matrix size: 1/1.31 inch versus 1/1.12 inch. The large sensor area allows more light to be captured, which has a positive effect on the dynamic range of photos taken during the day as well as the quality of photos taken at night.
Another difference between ISOCELL GN 2 and ISOCELL GN 1 is Progressive HDR support. In this mode, the camera takes several shots at the same time with different light exposure levels, allowing you to get a wide dynamic range in the final photo even at night.
The announcement and launch of Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro is expected in the second half of 2023.
