‘Shadow’ is a service offered by the French company OVHcloud for working in the cloud. Using Windows 10-based servers, this technology is primarily aimed at remote workers and gamers as a service that sets it apart from other similar platforms.

Properties

Of course, you have to register for free on the web to access it. From now on we will get 20GB of free cloud storageUndoubtedly a good incentive for its launch in Spain. After signing up, we will be able to choose two main methods: the basic service Shadow PC and the service offered by its most powerful virtual computer, Power Upgrade.

basic service It allows us to use a PC, Mac, mobile or mid-range PC with the following specifications: Intel XEON 3.5 GHz CPU, 12 GB RAM and GeForce GTX 1080. With Power Upgrade, we will manage a more professional focused computer with AMD EPYC 7543P CPU, NVIDIA RTS A4000 and 16 GB RAM. Both are enough to enjoy the entire catalog of available games, the only limitation is a good internet signal. To do this, the system offers a preliminary test to know if we can use the system with ease.

real moment

Once the application client has been downloaded and run, we can choose whether we want to manage the PC in a window or run the virtual PC completely as if it were our local PC. The only difference we notice with a normal PC is a slight loss of detail on the desktop as the image is sent compressed and loses some definition in exchange for having a perfect simulation. With 800 Megabit/s connection, we were able to get 60 FPS continuously with 29 ms ping while playing the most demanding games with Ethernet cable. Numbers are almost similar in 5G WiFi usage. We’ve never noticed lags or lags in shooters or even in ‘The Witcher 3’ at high quality 60 FPS.

Likewise, we tested services like STEAM and the Epic Games Store, as we usually do. The management of the PC is done in exactly the same way, the only difference with a normal PC is that we can always access the connection status: images per second, transfer rate, ping and connection options by pressing Alt+Windows or Command+O.

The system is a great solution for playing any type of video game on platforms like old PC or macOS. Playing on mobile phones or portable devices is more complicated as we are using an ordinary PC equipped with Windows 10. Regarding our recommendations, we did not see the need for the most advanced subscription to play, as it uses a professional graphics. The basic service is an adequate option for all available games.

Using this system, the download speed is phenomenal when using the parent company’s servers and not your private connection. Several GB downloads are done in seconds. Of course, the capacity of your hard drive is 500 GB, divided into two disks, in both the basic and advanced versions. You can buy more space, but it will cost extra.

Definitely

Shadow is a service where you can use all your accounts as it is nothing but a remote computer: STEAM, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Games or any other service. In that sense, it’s definitely a superior offer over other options on the market. Like everything else, it has some minor downsides, a connection of a certain quality is required (from 50 Megabit/s download it will be enough for a stable connection). Simplicity enthusiasts will also notice a slight blurriness in the Windows interface, but this is because the imported image is compressed. Other than these details, the usage is stable.

It’s really an ideal solution for gamers who don’t want or can’t afford to spend a lot, but have a gaming PC anywhere in the world that doesn’t have a tether, as long as they have a decent internet connection and of course a great resource. professionals with the same needs. It’s also a great option for specific games: events, meetings, meetings… because it allows you to “get” a gaming PC in seconds via the cloud. After a hesitant start on other more closed platforms, maybe this is what gamers are looking for.
