Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a popular competitive first-person team shooter. Recently, players have complained of being confronted with the error “VAC could not verify your gaming session”. Today we will tell you why this problem occurs and how to fix it.
Restart the Steam client
One of the easiest solutions to a problem. A large number of processes take place during a game session. If the system does not have time to process them, a malfunction may occur. In this case, do the following:
- Run Steam.
- In the top right corner of the screen you will see your account nickname, and next to it arrow. Click here.
- Select “Log out”.
- Fill in your details and log in again.

Restart your computer
This method will help players who rarely turn off their PC, or for those who have previously logged into their Steam account on another device. Restarting your computer or laptop will update all processes and running programs.
Run the game as administrator
To do this, you need to find the executable file csgo.exe:
- Go to library Steam and select a game.
- Click PKM and select “Check”and then click the option to view local files.
- Locate the application in the folder that opens. csgo.exeright click on the file and select the item “Properties”.
- Go to the tab “Compatibility”.
- Check article “Run the program as administrator”and save your changes.
Check the integrity of game files
When faced with an error, the most rational solution is to check the integrity of the files. During the scan, the client checks for missing required files and downloads them again. Follow the steps below to run a check:
- Open library spell.
- Select an application and click PKM. An action window with the selected game will appear.
- Click “Properties”.
- Select an item “Local Files”.
- Press the button “File Integrity Check”.

Fix Steam using the command line
Another reason for the error could be a crash of the Steam servers. In this case, we recommend using the command line. Follow the instructions below to restore the client:
- Use a combination Win+Rto open search.
- Enter cmd without quotes and click “OKAY”.
- To start the recovery process, you need to enter a command.
“Path to Steam folder and SteamService.exe file” /repairfor example:
- “C:Program Files (x86)SteambinSteamService.exe” /repair

As in the previous case, you have to wait until the computer has completely processed all the data and downloaded the missing files. Restart your computer after the check is complete. Open the client again and start the game.
Disable your antivirus
The process of scanning the system with an antivirus program can be a factor that causes this error. System security affects the operation of VAC when checking and restoring applications in the background. We have already discussed how to temporarily disable antivirus programs in Windows 10 and Windows 11.
If you don’t want to completely disable protection, you can try adding a process steam.exe to the exceptions. A similar function can be found in the settings of any antivirus software.

End tasks running in the background
Some VPN or Proxy processes may conflict with Valve Anti-Cheat, which in turn leads to an error. Below we will describe the most common programs that interfere with the launch of Valve anti-cheat.
Services
Using a key combination Win+R Open the window “Run”. Enter services.msc without quotes and click “OKAY”. Application opens “Services”.

Find the following services:
- VMnetDHCP;
- VMUSBArb service;
- VMware NAT service;
- vmware hosted;
- VMauthdService;
- hsld.
Click PKM for each and select “Turn of”.
Processes
Press hotkey “Ctrl+Shift+Esc”to open “Task Manager”. Go to tab “Processes”. Locate and terminate the following processes (if any):
- hydra.exe
- hsswd.exe
- hsscp.exe
- vmware.exe.
Click on any PKM and select “Delete task”.
Steamservice.dll Error
Sometimes this error is related to files steamservice.dll. One file has been saved in the Steam client folderand secondly – in the Program Files folder (x86) on the system disk. They must be identical or else it may cause a problem when checking files with Valve’s anti-cheat. It’s worth noting that the file in the client folder will always be up to date, so you’ll need to replace the second DLL with it:
- Navigate to the Steam root folder along the path “Drive:/Steam/Fry”.
- To copy “steamservice.dll”.
- Go to folder “System Drive: /Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Steam” and replace the similar file with the copied one.
Reinstall the game
If none of the above methods worked for you, try installing again Counterstrike: Global Offensive. In this case, the installed configurations for the game will be deleted, so we strongly recommend that you save them in a separate folder. The configuration is saved along the path:
- “Drive:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Counter-Strike: Global Offensive/csgo/cfg”

Go to the directory and save the configuration to any location on your hard drive if it was changed manually. After reinstalling the game, put the files in the folder “cfg”.
Update your video card driver
A similar error also occurs due to an outdated version of the video adapter drivers. Visit the graphics chip manufacturer’s website (NVIDIA or AMD), download and install the latest drivers.
Exit Steam Betas
Maybe you have ever added a beta version of the client and forgot about it. This factor can affect VAC and gameplay. You can disable the beta version as follows:
- Run Steam.
- Click on the inscription Steam in the top left corner of the screen, then select “Settings”.
- click on “Account”.
- In chapter “Beta testing” click option “Change…” and select “REJECT – Exit all beta programs”.
- Save your changes.
